nickelodeon punta cana

April 25, 2017 Uvero Alto, Punta Cana 23000, Dominican Republic

Another absolutely fantastic vacation in the books!

We recently returned from a week of nonstop fun and relaxation at the Nickelodeon Punta Cana!  This one will be hard to top.  The kids were begging to book another trip before we even checked out.  Upon arrival the kids were greeted with lovely green slime smoothies and a bronze statue of Sponge Bob.  Epic, according to my kids...

First off let me explain a bit about the property.  Nickelodeon Punta Cana is owned by the Karisma Resorts chain.  It is also two properties in one-- Nickelodeon + Sensatori.  They share restaurants, the beach, pool and most other amenities.  The only obvious difference is the Nickelodeon waterpark, which I believe is exclusively for the Nickelodeon guests.  Upon check in, our room was not ready, so we were accommodated in the Sensatori section for our first night.

Now for some basic pros and cons:

PROS:
  • Very new
  • Gorgeous, immaculate grounds
  • Beautiful, clean, semi-private beach
  • Plenty of beach/pool chairs
  • Great bar service
  • Excellent food
  • 24 hour room service included
  • Free wi-fi throughout property *but see note below in cons
  • Amazing staff
  • Fantastic kids club and activities for children
  • Delicious coffee shop
  • Tram service throughout the property
  • Waterpark
  • Lazy river
  • Comfortable beds
  • Large balconies
  • Tastefully decorated rooms and facilities
  • Public bathrooms were always spotless

CONS:
  • 40 minute drive from airport
  • Large property if you don't like walking (was not an issue for us)
  • Not close to town
  • While the wi-fi is free, it is not secure.  I recommend purchasing a VPN before arriving to be safe
  • Long lines for ala carte restaurants if not there early

Obviously there are far more pros than cons.  Want a peek into our experience?!  Here goes....

THE ROOM

We were placed in a flat suite.  It perfectly fit or family and was very comfortable.  The best feature was the king sized bed could be completely closed off from the rest of the room via handy pocket doors.  If the little one needed some extra time to sleep, the rest of us could hang out on the balcony or watch tv on the couch.  The boys slept on the pull out couch, and aside from the occasional toe slipping over the "line" down the middle they formed, there were no complaints.  The bathroom worked well for a family of five and had a huge soaker tub.  Our balcony was large and comfortable.

Oh and our balcony overlooked the pretty fabulous pineapple house, which you will recognize if you are familiar with Sponge Bob!

THE HOTEL
The property is long and narrow with Aqua Nick across the main street, the lobby next, the main square with all of the restaurants, coffee shop, gym, spa, etc.  Following that are the rooms.  I can't recall how many buildings there are, but initially we were in building 9, which was very close to the beach, and we ended up in building 4 which was closest to the main square.  The other end of the resort is the beautiful beach.  At first it seems large, but the property is actually very walkable and easy to navigate.

The lobby is very modern, fun and comfortable.  There is a separate waiting area for the little ones if things take a little longer.

The main square is cute and convenient

In my opinion the food was excellent.  We ate at a few ala carte restaurants (Spacewalker, Wok Wok and BRGERS.PH).  They all were good, but we actually just preferred the buffet, Sugarcane.  The restaurants are more for the experience, but I thought my kids had better (and healthier) meals at Sugarcane.  The coffee shop was a huge bonus.  Like everywhere else on the property, the staff was so nice and accommodating.  Coffee, tea, donuts, sandwiches and other goodies were plentiful and delicious.  Here we are enjoying it...

The kids really enjoyed the experience at Spacewalker.  If you go, be sure to order the dessert, Inner Core, a big ball of chocolate that is cracked open slowly by drizzling ooey, gooey, delicious hot fudge over the top.....

THE BEACH

Nickelodeon Punta Cana is located on Uvero Alto Beach.  The waves were a little rough, but we were able to swim most days.  The beach is quite private.  There are resorts on each side, but unless you are looking for them, you wouldn't really notice.  There were always beach chairs open and cabanas were available to rent.  The beach really was gorgeous!  Just before you hit the beach, there is a large, beautiful, infinity pool.
